Founded in 1839, the University of Missouri in Columbia is the state's flagship university, combining the resources of a comprehensive research institution and a state land-grant university on its 1,372-acre campus. MU offers more than 285 degree programs through 19 colleges and schools and has the largest research operation of any public university in Missouri. It is one of the only six public institutions in the country with law, medicine, engineering, agriculture and veterinary medicine on a single campus. MU is located in central Missouri about two hours from both Kansas City and St. Louis and 30 miles from the Missouri state capital Jefferson City.
