Founded in 1870, Syracuse University is a private institution offering over 200 undergraduate programs in liberal arts; architecture; education; engineering and computer science; human ecology (including child and family studies, health and wellness, hospitality management, marriage and family therapy, nutrition sciences and dietetics, sport management, and social work); information management and technology; management; public communications; and visual and performing arts, (including art, music, drama, and communication and rhetorical studies). SU students enjoy the best of two learning environments. As a major research university, SU is large enough to offer a wide variety of academic activities and learning opportunities, and yet its nine undergraduate colleges provide smaller, more intimate settings where students build lasting relationships with mentoring faculty members. The University is led by its vision of Scholarship in Action, which means that students prepare for the world in the world.
