Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, a public, four-year institution, is one of 14 members of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Founded in 1839 as the Bloomsburg Literary Institute, the university currently enrolls over 8,500 undergraduate students in the Colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology and more than 900 graduate students in upper-level programs, including a doctoral program in clinical audiology. Ninety percent of the university's students are Pennsylvania residents and 7 percent hail from neighboring New Jersey.
