Berea charges no tuition and admits only academically promising students, primarily from Appalachia, who have limited economic resources. Its 140-acre campus is located in Berea, 40 miles south of Lexington.

Happy Chandler Scholarship
Applicant must be a high school senior at the time of application who is a United States citizen and is a resident of Kentucky enrolled in a Kentucky school. Applicant must be active in community service and/or school activities and/or employment and will be a full-time college student with a minimum 3.0 GPA or an ACT score of 25 or above. A 500-word essay about professional plans after college, two letters of recommendation with one being from a teacher and one from a professional outside of the school system must be submitted. Recipient must agree to live and work in Kentucky after graduation. Award is $2,000 per semester for up to eight semesters.

Applicant must be an undergraduate student enrolled in a tourism-specific program or area of focus, or a hospitality program with a focus on travel and tourism; or be a graduate student who is able to demonstrate a clear focus on and commitment to the tourism subject area. Application, scanned copy of driver's license, resume, two letters of recommendation (academic and professional), transcript, and a scanned two-page original essay which answers the following question: "What contributions do you feel you might make in pursuing a career in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industry?
